What it means
The supply voltage to battery charger A control module is high. Charger may not start or operate reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery charger A's control module needs supply voltage within its designed range to manage charging. P2E2E sets when the monitored supply is higher than expected, which can arise from a wire shorted to B+ or an overvoltage condition in the vehicle's electrical supply.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Alternator overvoltage
- Wire shorted to B+
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check live charger A module supply voltage to confirm the high condition and when it occurs.
- Check for other high-voltage or charging-system codes and determine whether the elevated reading is limited to charger A or affects other modules.
- With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect charger A's supply wiring and connector for damage that could let the wire contact B+.
- Measure voltage at the charger module and source, then test the supply circuit for a short to B+ using the manufacturer's wiring information.
- If the supply is high at its source, test the vehicle's charging system where applicable; if input is within specification, test the charger module's voltage monitoring circuit.
Common fixes
- Repair a charger A supply wire shorted to B+.
- Repair a high-resistance or damaged connector if it is causing an abnormal reading.
- Correct an overvoltage condition in the vehicle's electrical supply where applicable.
- Repair or replace the charger A module if its input is normal but its voltage monitoring remains faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid charging until the high supply condition is checked, since continued overvoltage may damage the charger or connected electronics. If the vehicle also shows propulsion warnings or reduced power, stop safely and arrange assistance.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
