What it means
The ECM detects a circuit low fault on the turbocharger/supercharger boost sensor d circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Boost sensor D sends a pressure signal to the engine control module for turbocharger or supercharger control. This code sets when the sensor D circuit voltage is lower than the module's calibrated range, commonly due to a signal short to ground, an internally shorted sensor, or a poor corroded connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Reduced engine power may occur
- Boost control may be limited
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and scan related sensor codes, then check whether other sensors sharing a supply or ground also have faults.
- Inspect boost sensor D's connector for corrosion, moisture, bent pins, or weak terminal contact, and check the harness for a signal wire rubbed through to ground.
- Read sensor D live data with the engine off and see whether it remains implausibly low compared with other pressure data.
- Using the wiring diagram, test the sensor D signal circuit for a short to ground and check its power and ground circuits according to the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the wiring and connector pass, test or substitute sensor D only as permitted by the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair corroded or loose terminals at the boost sensor D connector.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or other damaged wiring in the sensor D circuit.
- Replace boost sensor D if it is internally shorted and the circuit tests correctly.
Can I keep driving?
The control module may restrict boost and reduce power, so avoid high-load driving, towing, and fast overtaking. If the power loss is severe or the vehicle enters limp mode, stop safely and arrange assistance.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
