OBD-II fault code

P2CD6: Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Sensor D Circuit

What it means

The ECM detects a circuit fault on the turbocharger/supercharger boost sensor d circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Boost sensor D measures pressure in the turbocharger or supercharger system and sends its signal to the engine control module. This code sets when the module detects an electrical fault in sensor D's circuit, making that signal unreliable for boost control.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor failed
  2. Wiring or connector fault

Symptoms

  • Reduced engine power may occur
  • Boost control may be limited

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and scan related boost and sensor codes before clearing anything, since they can help locate a shared power, ground, or signal fault.
  2. With the engine off, inspect boost sensor D's connector and wiring for loose pins, corrosion, chafing, or damage near heat and moving parts.
  3. Check live data for sensor D with the engine off and compare it with other available pressure readings for an implausible or missing signal.
  4. Test the sensor D circuit's power, ground, and signal continuity using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If wiring and connections pass, test boost sensor D itself against the manufacturer's specification before replacing it.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean a loose or corroded boost sensor D connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a poor ground in the sensor D circuit.
  • Replace boost sensor D if circuit testing confirms the sensor has failed.

Can I keep driving?

The engine may limit boost and power, so avoid high-load driving, towing, or overtaking until the fault is diagnosed. Stop if power loss makes it difficult to keep up safely or the engine runs abnormally.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
