OBD-II fault code

P2C46: Battery Isolation/Voltage Stabilization Control Circuit High

What it means

The battery isolation/voltage stabilization module reports a control circuit high condition. Power supply quality during start/stop or load shedding is impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The battery isolation or voltage stabilization module helps keep vehicle power steady during starting, stopping, and load shedding. P2C46 sets when the monitored control-circuit signal is higher than the expected range, so the module's response cannot be trusted to regulate supply quality.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Control wire shorted to B+
  2. Open module input
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light or hybrid-system warning light
  • Intermittent electrical or start-stop system warnings
  • Unusual dimming or flickering of electrical accessories

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and review live data for the module control signal to confirm it is high when the fault sets.
  2. Inspect the control wire for damage or contact with a battery-positive supply, and check connectors for corrosion or displaced pins.
  3. Following the vehicle's isolation procedure, test the control wire for a short to B+.
  4. Check continuity and terminal contact through the control circuit to identify an open module input or a high-resistance connector.
  5. If the harness and connections pass, test the module input with the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Repair a control wire shorted to B+.
  • Repair an open wire or module input connection.
  • Clean or replace corroded connector terminals and restore proper terminal fit.
  • Replace the module if its input is confirmed faulty after circuit checks.

Can I keep driving?

Keep trips short and avoid depending on start-stop or load-shedding functions if the hybrid-system warning or flickering is active. Stop safely if power to essential systems becomes unstable or the vehicle enters reduced-power operation.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
