What it means
The battery isolation/voltage stabilization module reports a control circuit low condition. Power supply quality during start/stop or load shedding is impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The battery isolation or voltage stabilization module helps maintain a steady electrical supply during start-stop events and load shedding. P2C45 sets when the monitored control-circuit signal falls below the expected range, which can prevent the module from managing power supply quality correctly.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to ground
- Internal module short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light or hybrid-system warning light
- Intermittent electrical or start-stop system warnings
- Unusual dimming or flickering of electrical accessories
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and check live data for the module's control signal to confirm it is low when the fault is present.
- Inspect the control-wire routing and connectors for a wire chafed against ground, pin damage, or corrosion.
- With the circuit isolated as specified for the vehicle, check whether the control wire is shorted to ground.
- Check connector terminal condition and continuity through the circuit, since corrosion or a poor contact can pull the signal low.
- If the wiring is sound, test the module for an internal short using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair a control wire that is shorted to ground.
- Clean or replace corroded or damaged connector terminals.
- Repair a poor terminal fit or damaged control-circuit connection.
- Replace the battery isolation or voltage stabilization module if an internal short is confirmed.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid relying on start-stop or load-shedding functions while electrical warnings or accessory dimming are occurring; the vehicle may also reduce power. Stop if essential electrical systems become unstable or the vehicle's operation changes.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
