What it means
The module detects nitrogen oxide emissions above the allowed threshold together with lower than expected reductant consumption. It sets the code when the NOx and reductant monitoring results meet the calibrated conditions for this fault.
How it works
The SCR system compares measured NOx with reductant use to confirm that enough DEF is being consumed to support emissions control. P2BAA sets when NOx is excessive while reported reductant consumption is lower than expected, pointing toward a delivery, fluid, sensor, or SCR problem.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Restricted or faulty reductant injector
- Reductant pump or pressure problem
- Incorrect or contaminated reductant fluid
- Faulty NOx sensor
- SCR system leak or damage
Symptoms
- Check engine light
- AdBlue or emissions warning
- Reduced engine power
- Starting restriction warning
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data, DEF consumption, NOx sensor readings, and related SCR codes to establish when low consumption coincided with high NOx.
- Check the DEF level and fluid condition, and inspect the tank and supply lines for contamination, leaks, or crystallized deposits.
- Inspect the reductant injector for blockage and check its connector and wiring for damage.
- Use the manufacturer's procedure to check pump pressure and commanded-versus-actual dosing, comparing results with the manufacturer's specification.
- If delivery is normal, verify NOx sensor plausibility and inspect for SCR leaks or damage before assessing catalyst performance.
Common fixes
- Replace contaminated or incorrect DEF with the correct fluid using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Clean or replace a restricted injector confirmed by testing.
- Repair a DEF supply leak or damaged pump or injector wiring.
- Repair or replace a pump that fails its delivery test.
- Replace a NOx sensor or repair SCR damage only when testing confirms the fault.
Can I keep driving?
Arrange diagnosis soon, especially if power is reduced or a starting restriction warning appears. Avoid heavy loads because persistent high NOx and SCR faults can trigger further vehicle restrictions.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
