What it means
The control signal for injection pump metering channel E is above the expected window. Wire shorted to B+ or actuator open.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Channel E is a fuel-metering control path in the injection pump, identified by the vehicle maker as a cam, rotor, or injector path. The control module monitors its electrical signal; a signal above the expected window sets P2A1D, which can interfere with fuel delivery and cause rough running, hesitation, or reduced power.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to B+
- Open metering actuator
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Rough running or hesitation
- Reduced engine power
- Hard starting
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check live data for channel E to see when its control signal rises above the expected window.
- Inspect the channel E connector and harness for damaged insulation or contact with a battery-positive supply.
- Use the manufacturer's wiring information to test whether the channel E control wire is shorted to B+.
- Test the channel E metering actuator and circuit for an open according to the manufacturer's procedure.
- Clear the code after repair and confirm the channel E signal and engine operation remain normal.
Common fixes
- Repair wiring that has shorted the channel E control circuit to B+.
- Repair loose, corroded, or damaged terminals at the channel E connector.
- Replace the channel E metering actuator if it is confirmed open.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving because channel E's electrical fault can cause rough running, hesitation, and reduced power; avoid high-speed or heavy-load driving. Stop if power loss makes the vehicle difficult to control, as continued operation can worsen drivability and emissions.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
