OBD-II fault code

P2A1F: Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control F Range/Performance (Cam/Rotor/Injector)

What it means

Fuel metering on channel F of the injection pump is outside the calibrated tolerance. Mechanical wear or pressure regulator drift.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Injection pump channel F meters fuel through a cam, rotor, or injector path, depending on the system. The control module compares the channel’s response with its calibrated operating range and sets this code when that response is out of range or does not track as expected.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Internal wear in pump element
  2. Pressure regulator drift
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough running or hesitation
  • Reduced engine power
  • Hard starting

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and review live channel F and fuel-pressure data to identify the conditions under which its response leaves the expected range.
  2. Inspect the channel F connector and wiring for corrosion, damage, or poor contact that could distort the signal.
  3. Compare channel F readings and commanded response with the manufacturer's specification across operating conditions.
  4. Check the pressure regulator and related feedback signals for drift or unstable response, using the manufacturer's test procedure.
  5. If the circuit and regulator checks pass, test the channel F pump element and sensor for wear or calibration drift.

Common fixes

  • Repair poor connections or damaged channel F wiring.
  • Replace a pressure regulator that fails the specified response test.
  • Replace a sensor element confirmed to be outside its calibration range.
  • Repair or replace the worn channel F pump element if testing confirms internal wear.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving and avoid hard acceleration, towing, or other heavy loads because channel F may not meter fuel consistently. Arrange diagnosis soon; hard starting, hesitation, or reduced power can become more pronounced.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
