What it means
The clutch B motor position signal does not correlate with the commanded commutation. Sensor offset or signal integrity degraded.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The clutch B motor position sensor provides rotor feedback so the transmission control module can synchronize motor commutation with the commanded movement. This code sets when the position signal is present but does not agree sufficiently with expected motor behavior, as can happen with sensor offset, electrical noise or a signal drifting outside its calibration range.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor mechanically offset
- Electrical noise on signal line
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare clutch B commanded movement with position feedback to identify when the readings stop correlating.
- Inspect the position-sensor connector and wiring for loose terminals, damaged insulation, corrosion or routing that could expose the signal to electrical noise.
- Check that the sensor and motor are securely mounted and inspect for signs that the sensor position has shifted, using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Monitor position feedback during the manufacturer's actuator test and look for jumps, drift or inconsistent readings as the motor turns.
- Test the sensor signal and wiring integrity, then compare sensor alignment and output with the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Repair loose, corroded or damaged position-sensor connections.
- Repair or reroute signal wiring that is damaged or picking up electrical interference.
- Realign the clutch B position sensor using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Replace the position sensor if its signal remains outside specification after wiring and alignment checks.
Can I keep driving?
Keep driving to a minimum because inaccurate rotor feedback can cause clutch B to engage at the wrong time, leading to shuddering, slipping or limp mode. Stop if shifts become unpredictable or the vehicle loses a gear.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
