What it means
The phase currents of the clutch A BLDC motor do not match the commanded commutation pattern within tolerance. Sensor or driver synchronisation off.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The clutch A BLDC motor's U, V, and W phase currents should follow a commutation pattern coordinated with rotor position. This code sets when the measured phase currents do not match the commanded pattern within the allowed tolerance, which can indicate rotor-position offset or an imbalance between phases.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Rotor position sensor offset
- Phase current imbalance
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and live clutch A commands, rotor-position readings, and phase-current readings to see when the mismatch occurs.
- Inspect the clutch A motor, position-sensor, and phase connectors and wiring for damage, corrosion, loose terminals, or poor connections.
- Compare U, V, and W phase-current behaviour during a manufacturer-approved actuator test to identify an imbalance.
- Check rotor-position sensor alignment or offset using the manufacturer's procedure and specification.
- If alignment and wiring are correct, test the phase-current sensing and output driver for synchronisation faults.
Common fixes
- Repair loose, damaged, or corroded clutch A motor and sensor connections.
- Correct rotor-position sensor alignment or offset according to the manufacturer's procedure.
- Repair a confirmed phase-current sensing or wiring fault.
- Replace a confirmed faulty clutch A motor or output driver.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid driving if shifting is harsh, delayed, slipping, or the vehicle enters limp mode; arrange recovery if gear control is unreliable. Continued clutch shudder or slipping can increase wear and transmission damage.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
