What it means
The output stage for the clutch A BLDC motor cannot drive current through at least one of the U/V/W phases. Open wire or open winding.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The clutch A BLDC motor needs a complete path through its U, V, and W phases so the output stage can drive it. This code sets when the output stage cannot drive current through at least one phase, consistent with an open wire, open motor winding, or a terminal pushed back in its connector.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open phase wire
- Open motor winding
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Read transmission freeze-frame data and clutch A phase or command readings to identify when the open-phase fault was detected.
- Inspect the U, V, and W wiring and connectors, checking for a pushed-back terminal, broken wire, corrosion, or loose connection.
- Check each phase circuit for continuity using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and connector-disconnection procedure.
- With the motor isolated as specified, check its phase windings for an open circuit and compare results with the manufacturer's specification.
- If the motor and wiring pass, test the output-stage connections and driver using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Reseat a pushed-back clutch A connector terminal and secure the connector.
- Repair a broken or open U, V, or W phase wire.
- Clean or replace corroded phase connector terminals.
- Replace the clutch A motor if testing confirms an open winding.
Can I keep driving?
Do not continue driving if shifts are missing, slipping, or the vehicle is stuck in one gear; arrange recovery if gear control is unreliable. A failed clutch actuator circuit can leave the transmission unable to operate the clutch properly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
