What it means
Voltage on the secondary fuel shutoff valve control line is below the expected window. Usually a short to ground or a shorted solenoid coil.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The controller operates fuel shutoff valve B through an electrical control circuit. This code sets when the monitored circuit voltage is lower than expected, often because the control wire is shorted to ground or the valve coil is internally shorted.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to ground
- Internal short in solenoid coil
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check for other fuel-shutoff circuit codes that could indicate a shared wiring problem.
- Inspect fuel shutoff valve B's connector and harness for chafing, corrosion, moisture, or a wire contacting ground.
- With the circuit isolated as specified, test the valve coil for a short or resistance outside the manufacturer's specification.
- Check the control wire for a short to ground and examine connector pins for corrosion or poor contact.
- If the valve and wiring test correctly, check the controller output according to the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose valve B connector terminals.
- Repair the control wire if its insulation is shorted to ground.
- Replace fuel shutoff valve B if its coil is shorted or out of specification.
- Repair a confirmed controller connector or driver fault.
Can I keep driving?
The engine may continue to run, but valve B may not operate as intended during a commanded fuel shutoff. Have the fault checked promptly, and do not drive if you smell fuel or see a leak.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
