What it means
Same as P2434 on bank 2. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The AIR system uses a pressure or airflow sensor to tell the control module whether secondary air is reaching bank 2 as expected. This code sets when the bank 2 sensor signal changes unpredictably or drops in and out, rather than staying stable under the same operating conditions.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intermittent contact at connector
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check-engine light on
- Intermittent rough cold start
- Reduced power or increased emissions
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and watch the bank 2 AIR pressure or airflow reading while the fault is present.
- Inspect the bank 2 sensor connector for moisture, corrosion, loose fit, or pushed-back pins that could interrupt contact.
- Trace the bank 2 sensor harness and look for chafing or contact with a vibrating or hot component.
- With the engine operating under conditions that reproduce the fault, gently move the bank 2 harness and connector while watching live data for a dropout.
- If the signal still behaves erratically, test the bank 2 sensor wiring and sensor operation against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Reseat and secure the bank 2 sensor connector.
- Repair damaged connector seals or terminals causing intermittent contact.
- Repair or reroute chafed bank 2 sensor wiring away from vibration and heat.
- Replace the bank 2 AIR pressure or airflow sensor if its signal remains erratic after wiring checks.
Can I keep driving?
If the engine runs normally, a short, gentle drive to arrange diagnosis is generally reasonable, but avoid hard acceleration and repeated cold starts. The intermittent AIR fault can increase emissions, and unstable wiring may worsen or cause further drivability problems.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
