What it means
Same as P2430 with intermittent or erratic signal. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The bank 1 SAI air-flow or pressure sensor reports whether injected air is moving through the system. P2434 sets when the control module sees that signal fluctuate or drop out intermittently, often because vibration or harness movement briefly interrupts the sensor circuit.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intermittent contact at connector
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check-engine light on
- Intermittent rough cold start
- Reduced power or increased emissions
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and stored or pending codes, then monitor bank 1 SAI sensor data during a cold-start pump command for brief dropouts.
- Inspect the bank 1 connector, terminal fit, and harness routing for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or contact with a vibrating or hot component.
- With live data displayed, gently move the harness and connector to see whether the signal becomes erratic when a particular section is disturbed.
- Check circuit continuity and sensor power and ground while flexing the harness, comparing results with the manufacturer's specification.
- If the wiring remains stable, test the bank 1 sensor for intermittent internal failure under operating conditions.
Common fixes
- Secure and reroute the bank 1 harness away from vibration, heat, or sharp edges.
- Repair a loose, corroded, or damaged connector terminal.
- Splice or replace a harness section with an intermittent open or short.
- Replace the bank 1 SAI sensor if it drops out despite a stable circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Driving may be possible if the fault is intermittent and the engine runs normally, but the warning can return and cold-start emissions may increase. Avoid long trips if the engine runs roughly or loses power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
