OBD-II fault code

P2435: AIR System Air Flow or Pressure Sensor Circuit Bank 2

What it means

AIR System Air Flow or Pressure Sensor Circuit Bank 2: an electrical fault is present in the circuit.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The secondary air injection system pumps air into the exhaust, often during cold starts, to reduce emissions. The control module monitors the air-flow or pressure sensor circuit for bank 2 and sets P2435 when it detects an electrical fault on that bank.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Faulty air-flow or pressure sensor
  2. Open or shorted sensor wiring
  3. Loose or corroded connector

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light on
  • Rough cold start
  • Reduced power or increased emissions

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan live bank 2 SAI sensor readings and pump commands to establish when the circuit fault occurs.
  2. With the engine off, inspect the bank 2 SAI sensor connector and nearby wiring for looseness, corrosion, moisture, chafing, or pin damage.
  3. Check bank 2 sensor power, ground, and signal wiring for an open or short using the vehicle wiring diagram.
  4. Measure circuit continuity and sensor output during a commanded SAI test, comparing readings with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the wiring and connector pass, test the bank 2 air-flow or pressure sensor and replace it only if it fails.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect and secure a loose bank 2 SAI sensor connector.
  • Clean or repair corroded terminals and damaged bank 2 wiring.
  • Repair an open or short in the bank 2 sensor circuit.
  • Replace the bank 2 SAI air-flow or pressure sensor if it fails testing.

Can I keep driving?

A short trip is generally possible if the engine runs normally, but cold-start emissions may rise and rough running can occur. Arrange diagnosis soon if the fault affects power or drivability.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
