OBD-II fault code

P20E0: Exhaust Aftertreatment Fuel Pressure Sensor Circuit High

What it means

The control module has detected a voltage or signal that is higher than expected from the exhaust aftertreatment fuel pressure sensor circuit. It sets this code when the monitored circuit remains above its calibrated limit under the conditions required for the diagnostic to run.

How it works

The exhaust aftertreatment fuel pressure sensor reports pressure in the hydrocarbon-dosing rail used for DPF regeneration. P20E0 means the module detects a sensor-circuit signal above its expected limit; a short to voltage, a connector fault, or a failed sensor can cause the high reading.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Damaged or disconnected sensor wiring
  2. Corroded or loose sensor connector
  3. Faulty fuel pressure sensor
  4. Short to voltage in the circuit
  5. Aftertreatment fuel system fault

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • Reduced engine power
  • Poor engine performance
  • Increased emissions

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and live sensor readings to confirm when the high signal appears and whether it persists with the engine off or during priming.
  2. Inspect the pressure sensor connector and harness for loose or corroded pins, damaged insulation, or contact with a power feed.
  3. Monitor the sensor signal while gently moving the harness near the sensor to identify an intermittent high reading.
  4. Test the signal wire for a short to voltage and verify sensor power and ground using the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the circuit tests correctly, compare the sensor signal with actual rail pressure and test the sensor against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Secure the pressure sensor connector and clean serviceable corroded contacts.
  • Repair damaged insulation or wiring shorted to a voltage source.
  • Replace defective connector terminals or harness sections.
  • Replace the pressure sensor if its output remains high despite correct wiring and actual pressure.

Can I keep driving?

If the engine runs normally, keep trips short and avoid heavy loads because incorrect pressure feedback can disrupt aftertreatment dosing and regeneration. Seek diagnosis promptly if power drops or starting becomes difficult.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
