OBD-II fault code

P20DD: Exhaust Aftertreatment Fuel Pressure Sensor Circuit

What it means

A general electrical fault is reported on the aftertreatment fuel-pressure sensor — used to verify the dedicated HC-dosing rail is primed.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The exhaust aftertreatment fuel pressure sensor reports pressure in the dedicated hydrocarbon-dosing supply used for DPF regeneration. The module monitors the sensor circuit for an electrical fault and uses the pressure information to verify that the dosing rail is primed; P20DD does not by itself identify whether the sensor or its harness is at fault.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor failed
  2. Harness fault

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
  • Power loss especially at high load or rpm
  • Possible long cranking time

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and live pressure readings to see whether the fault occurred during priming, starting, or a regeneration request.
  2. Inspect the aftertreatment fuel pressure sensor connector and harness for loose pins, corrosion, chafing, or fluid intrusion.
  3. Compare the sensor reading with the system state before and during a commanded prime, using the scan tool if supported.
  4. Check the sensor's supply, ground, and signal circuits for continuity and connection quality using the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the wiring passes, test the pressure sensor and verify actual rail pressure using the vehicle manufacturer's specified method.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean a loose or corroded pressure-sensor connector.
  • Repair chafed wiring or a poor sensor ground.
  • Replace damaged connector terminals or harness sections.
  • Replace the aftertreatment fuel pressure sensor if its signal is faulty and the circuit tests correctly.

Can I keep driving?

If the engine starts and runs normally, limit driving and avoid high-load use because the module may not be able to verify dosing pressure or complete regeneration. If it stalls, will not start, or loses power, stop in a safe place and arrange diagnosis.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
