What it means
IMT position sensor at bank 2 signal is unstable — connector or harness issue. The intake manifold runner control (IMRC) flaps tune intake geometry for filling efficiency across the rpm range; stuck flaps cost part-load torque and can set lean codes.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The bank 2 intake manifold tuning valve changes runner flap position to suit engine speed and load, and its position sensor reports that movement to the control module. The module monitors whether the sensor signal stays consistent while the valve is commanded. P207E sets when the bank 2 signal drops out or changes unpredictably, often as a connector or harness connection shifts with vibration.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intermittent connector
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Possible intermittent loss of engine performance
- Possible hesitation or rough running
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and graph the bank 2 IMT position signal while commanding movement, noting whether it cuts out or jumps.
- Inspect the bank 2 sensor connector for looseness, corrosion, or terminals that may lose contact when the harness moves.
- Check the harness routing for rubbing or vibration against nearby components, especially where it bends near the intake manifold.
- With the circuit diagram, check signal-wire continuity while gently moving the harness and verify sensor power and ground against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the circuit remains stable, check that the bank 2 sensor and runner mechanism move smoothly and produce a consistent position signal.
Common fixes
- Reseat and secure the bank 2 IMT sensor connector.
- Clean or repair connector terminals with intermittent contact.
- Reroute and secure a harness that rubs or vibrates against another component.
- Repair a damaged bank 2 signal, supply, or ground wire.
- Replace the bank 2 position sensor if its signal remains intermittent with stable wiring.
Can I keep driving?
You can usually drive gently if performance is normal, but avoid overtaking or other situations that need predictable acceleration. If power loss or rough running becomes pronounced, stop and have the fault checked.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
