OBD-II fault code

P2075: Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) Valve Position Sensor/Switch Circuit (Bank 1)

What it means

A general electrical fault is reported on the IMT valve position sensor at bank 1 — open, short, or out of plausibility.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The intake manifold tuning valve changes the intake path to help the engine breathe across different operating conditions, and its position sensor reports the valve position to the engine computer. P2075 sets when the computer detects a general electrical or plausibility fault in the Bank 1 position-sensor circuit, such as an open, short, or implausible signal.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Position sensor failed
  2. Harness fault

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Possible reduced engine power or acceleration
  • Possible hesitation or rough running

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and scan-tool readings for the Bank 1 IMT commanded position and reported position, along with any related circuit codes.
  2. Locate the Bank 1 IMT sensor and inspect its connector and nearby harness for looseness, corrosion, damaged insulation, or oil and water intrusion.
  3. With the ignition off as appropriate for the vehicle, check that the Bank 1 tuning valve and linkage are present and move freely without binding.
  4. Use the wiring diagram to check the Bank 1 sensor supply, ground, and signal circuit for opens or shorts.
  5. Compare the Bank 1 sensor output and valve response with the manufacturer's specification before replacing parts.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect and secure a loose Bank 1 IMT sensor connector.
  • Repair corroded terminals or damaged Bank 1 sensor wiring.
  • Free a binding Bank 1 tuning-valve linkage if the valve itself is mechanically sound.
  • Replace the Bank 1 IMT position sensor if its circuit or output fails specification tests.

Can I keep driving?

If the engine runs smoothly, cautious driving to arrange a repair is usually possible, but avoid demanding acceleration if power or response is reduced. A stuck Bank 1 tuning valve can impair engine performance and increase emissions.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
