OBD-II fault code

P0ECF: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack E Voltage High

What it means

The monitored voltage for hybrid/EV battery E is above the expected range. The module sets this code when voltage exceeds its calibrated threshold during monitoring.

How it works

The battery management system monitors pack E voltage to protect the hybrid or EV battery and control charging. P0ECF sets when the measured voltage for section E exceeds its calibrated range, which may indicate section overvoltage, a sensing fault, or a charging or battery-control problem.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Battery section overvoltage
  2. Faulty voltage sensor or wiring
  3. Battery control module fault
  4. Charging system fault

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV warning light
  • Charging may be limited
  • Reduced power
  • Vehicle may not enter READY mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and review pack E voltage with neighboring battery readings and the vehicle's charging state.
  2. Inspect accessible voltage-sensing connectors and harness sections for looseness, corrosion, or damage, without opening the high-voltage pack.
  3. Check for related charging-system or battery-control warnings and compare pack E readings with the manufacturer's scan-tool data.
  4. Test the voltage sensing circuit and charging controls using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure and specifications.
  5. If the circuit and charging controls pass, have pack E and the battery control module assessed using the specified high-voltage safety procedure.

Common fixes

  • Secure or clean an accessible sensing connection.
  • Repair damaged voltage-sensing wiring.
  • Correct a confirmed charging-system fault.
  • Replace a failed sensing component, battery section, or control module only when testing identifies it.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid charging and strenuous driving until the overvoltage fault is assessed, since the vehicle may restrict charging or power and continued charging could worsen battery stress. If it will not enter READY or displays a hybrid or EV warning with reduced power, stop safely and follow the vehicle's instructions.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
