OBD-II fault code

P0E9D: DC/DC Converter Voltage Sensor C Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

What it means

The ECM detects a intermittent/erratic fault on the dc/dc converter voltage sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

DC/DC converter voltage sensor C reports converter voltage so the control module can manage low-voltage charging. This code sets when the signal changes intermittently or erratically, often because the connector is not seated, its ground reference is noisy, or vibration interrupts contact.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor connector not seated
  2. Noisy ground reference
  3. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV system warning light
  • Intermittent reduced power
  • Charging may be interrupted
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and monitor sensor C live data with converter voltage to see whether the reading drops or jumps during charging.
  2. Inspect the sensor C connector for incomplete seating, corrosion, or terminals that may lose contact.
  3. Check the sensor C ground reference and wiring for looseness, damage, or a poor connection that could make the signal unstable.
  4. With the vehicle safely operated according to its hybrid or EV procedures, monitor live data while gently checking the harness for vibration-sensitive interruptions.
  5. If connections remain sound, test sensor C and the DC/DC converter for intermittent output faults using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Fully seat and secure the voltage sensor C connector.
  • Repair loose, corroded, or damaged terminals and wiring in the sensor C circuit.
  • Correct a poor or noisy ground reference affecting sensor C.
  • Replace sensor C or repair the DC/DC converter if testing confirms an intermittent component fault.

Can I keep driving?

Intermittent charging loss can reduce electric range and may lead to reduced power, so avoid long trips until the fault is resolved. Stop safely if the vehicle limits power or shows a shutdown warning.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
