What it means
The ECM detects a low fault on the dc/dc converter voltage sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
DC/DC converter voltage sensor C reports converter voltage for low-voltage charging control. This code sets when the sensor C signal is too low, which can result from a signal wire shorted to ground, an internally shorted sensor, or corroded connector pins.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Hybrid or EV system warning light
- Reduced power or limited electric drive
- Charging may be limited
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and check sensor C live data against the 12-volt system reading to confirm a low signal.
- Inspect the voltage sensor C connector for corrosion, bent pins, or poor seating that could lower the signal.
- Check the sensor C signal wire for damage or a short to ground, including sections near the DC/DC converter.
- Test the circuit for a ground short and verify connector contact quality according to the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the circuit is sound, test sensor C for an internal short and check converter operation against specification.
Common fixes
- Clean or repair corroded sensor C connector terminals and secure the connection.
- Repair a sensor C signal wire shorted to ground.
- Replace voltage sensor C if it is internally shorted.
- Repair the DC/DC converter if it is producing an abnormal voltage.
Can I keep driving?
Treat reduced power or limited charging as a reason to keep the trip short, since the vehicle may not maintain its low-voltage supply or normal electric range. Stop safely if power becomes limited or a shutdown warning appears.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
