OBD-II fault code

P0E97: DC/DC Converter Voltage Sensor C Circuit High

What it means

The DC/DC converter voltage sensor C signal is outside the expected range or does not track converter voltage plausibly. The module sets this code when the signal fails its range or performance checks.

How it works

DC/DC converter voltage sensor C monitors a voltage in the converter that supports the vehicle's low-voltage electrical system. This code sets when its signal is higher than expected or does not plausibly track converter voltage, which can disrupt charging control.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Faulty voltage sensor
  2. Loose or corroded connector
  3. Damaged sensor wiring
  4. DC/DC converter fault

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV warning light
  • 12-volt battery warning
  • Electrical accessories may behave erratically
  • Reduced power

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and live readings for DC/DC converter voltage sensor C alongside the 12-volt system voltage to establish when the signal is high or implausible.
  2. Inspect sensor C wiring and its connector for loose seating, corrosion, pin damage, or a signal wire contacting a power source.
  3. Check the sensor C circuit for an open or unintended voltage feed using the manufacturer's wiring information and test procedure.
  4. Compare sensor C output with the manufacturer's specification while checking whether it tracks converter operation.
  5. If the wiring and connections are sound, test the sensor and DC/DC converter to identify which is producing the high or implausible reading.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect a loose DC/DC converter voltage sensor C connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or corroded terminals in the sensor C circuit.
  • Replace sensor C if its output remains high or implausible with a sound circuit.
  • Repair or replace the DC/DC converter if its output fails the manufacturer's checks.

Can I keep driving?

Check the 12-volt battery warning and accessory behavior, and avoid unnecessary electrical loads if they become erratic. If the warning persists or power is reduced, have the charging system checked promptly because the 12-volt battery may not be maintained.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
