OBD-II fault code

P0E9A: DC/DC Converter Voltage Sensor C Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the dc/dc converter voltage sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

DC/DC converter voltage sensor C measures converter voltage used to manage the vehicle's low-voltage supply. This code sets when the signal's range or performance is implausible, such as when sensor characteristics have drifted or the sensor is displaced.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor characteristic drifted
  2. Sensor mounting displaced
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV system warning light
  • Reduced power or limited electric drive
  • Charging may be limited
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and compare sensor C live readings with DC/DC converter voltage and 12-volt system behavior to identify the mismatch.
  2. Inspect voltage sensor C mounting for displacement and check its connector for looseness or damage.
  3. Inspect the sensor C harness for chafing, breaks, or poor connections that could make an otherwise plausible signal appear out of range.
  4. Compare sensor C output with the manufacturer's specification across the operating conditions relevant to the freeze frame.
  5. If the mounting and circuit are sound, test the sensor for calibration drift and check converter operation for an abnormal voltage.

Common fixes

  • Secure the sensor C connector and correct a displaced mounting.
  • Repair damaged wiring or connector terminals in the sensor C circuit.
  • Replace sensor C if its output has drifted outside the manufacturer's specification.
  • Repair the DC/DC converter if its voltage output is abnormal.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced power or limited charging may affect vehicle operation and electric range, so avoid trips that depend on full electric performance. If the vehicle begins limiting power, stop safely and arrange assistance.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
