OBD-II fault code

P0E6F: Battery Charging System Precharge Contactor Control Circuit Low

What it means

The control module detects voltage below the expected range in the battery charging system precharge contactor control circuit. The effect on vehicle operation depends on the vehicle.

How it works

The precharge contactor control circuit operates the contactor that allows the high-voltage system to precharge before the main contactors close. P0E6F is set when the control module detects circuit voltage below its expected range. A short to ground, damaged wiring, a failed coil, or a poor connection can pull the signal low.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open or damaged wiring
  2. Short to ground in the control circuit
  3. Faulty precharge contactor coil
  4. Loose or corroded connector
  5. Contactor driver or control module fault

Symptoms

  • Charging system warning
  • Vehicle may not enter Ready mode
  • Charging may be disabled
  • Reduced power or limited operation

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check live precharge command and circuit status, along with any related contactor codes.
  2. With the high-voltage system safely shut down, inspect the precharge contactor wiring and connector for damage, moisture, loose pins, or corrosion.
  3. Use the wiring diagram to check the control circuit for a short to ground or an open before testing components.
  4. Measure the contactor coil and circuit values against the manufacturer's specification to distinguish a coil fault from a wiring fault.
  5. If the circuit and coil pass, compare commanded and reported states and investigate the contactor driver or control module.

Common fixes

  • Repair wiring that is shorted to ground or otherwise damaged.
  • Clean or repair a loose or corroded precharge connector.
  • Replace a precharge contactor with a coil that fails the specified test.
  • Repair or replace the driver or control module only after confirming the circuit is sound.

Can I keep driving?

If the vehicle cannot enter Ready mode, do not drive it; arrange recovery. If it remains driveable, use caution because reduced power or disabled charging can leave you without expected range.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
