OBD-II fault code

P0DFA: Generator Phase U-V-W Current Sensor Correlation

What it means

The signals of the generator phase U, V and W current sensors do not correlate within the calibrated tolerance.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The generator’s U, V, and W phase current sensors measure current in the three motor-generator phases so the hybrid control system can manage generator torque. This code sets when the three sensor signals disagree beyond their calibrated relationship, suggesting one sensor has drifted or the channels have an unwanted ground offset.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. One sensor characteristic drifted
  2. Ground offset between channels

Symptoms

  • Hybrid/EV system warning light on
  • Reduced power or altered hybrid operation

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and review live U, V, and W phase-current readings under comparable operating conditions for a channel that disagrees with the other two.
  2. Check for related hybrid-system or generator codes that may point to a shared power, ground, or connector problem.
  3. With the hybrid system safely disabled according to service information, inspect the three current-sensor connectors and harnesses for damage, loose terminals, or contamination.
  4. Check sensor grounds and shared connections for voltage offset using the manufacturer’s procedure.
  5. Test each phase current sensor and its circuit against the manufacturer’s specification to identify a drifting channel.

Common fixes

  • Repair loose or damaged connectors and harness wiring for the affected phase sensor.
  • Correct a confirmed poor ground or ground offset affecting the sensor channels.
  • Replace the phase current sensor proven to be out of calibration.
  • Repair a confirmed control-module connection fault affecting the U, V, or W readings.

Can I keep driving?

Drive only as needed and avoid hard acceleration, towing, or steep climbs because generator output and hybrid operation may be reduced or altered. Stop if power becomes unpredictable or a hybrid-system warning escalates.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
