What it means
The ECM detects a low fault on the generator inverter temperature sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Generator inverter temperature sensor C sends an electrical signal representing temperature to the control module. This code sets when the signal falls below its expected electrical range, often because the signal wire is shorted to ground or the sensor is internally shorted.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Hybrid/EV system warning light on
- Power may be reduced if the inverter temperature cannot be monitored reliably
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare sensor C’s live value with the other inverter temperature sensors for a fixed or abnormally low reading.
- With the system powered down according to the manufacturer’s instructions, inspect sensor C’s connector for corrosion, moisture, or damaged terminals.
- Inspect the sensor C signal wire for chafing or a short to ground.
- Check terminal fit and circuit continuity using the manufacturer’s procedure.
- Test sensor C against the manufacturer’s specification to determine whether it is internally shorted.
Common fixes
- Clean or repair corroded or poorly seated sensor C connector terminals.
- Repair the signal wire if it is shorted to ground or damaged.
- Replace sensor C if it fails the manufacturer’s test.
- Repair a confirmed circuit fault at the control-module end.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid long trips and heavy loads because the hybrid system may limit power without a reliable sensor C temperature signal. Stop safely if overheating indications or significant power reduction appear.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
