OBD-II fault code

P0DE5: Charge Status Indicator B Control Circuit/Open

What it means

The charge status indicator B control circuit is open. Indicator cannot illuminate to show charging state.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Charge status indicator B is a driver-facing indicator controlled through its own electrical circuit. This code sets when the module detects an open circuit in indicator B's control path, so the indicator may not show the charging state even if charging itself is operating.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open in indicator wire
  2. Indicator lamp burnt out
  3. Pin pushed back out of connector body

Symptoms

  • Charge-status indicator B may not illuminate
  • Charging status may be unclear to the driver

How to diagnose it

  1. Check whether charge status indicator B illuminates during the vehicle's normal indicator check and record any related body or charging-system codes.
  2. Inspect indicator B and its connector for a loose connection, damaged pins, or a lamp that has failed.
  3. Inspect the indicator B control wire for damage or a pinched section that could leave the circuit open.
  4. Test circuit continuity from the indicator to its control point using the manufacturer's wiring information and specified procedure.
  5. If the wire and indicator are intact, test the module output that controls indicator B.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect indicator B or secure a backed-out connector pin.
  • Replace a failed indicator lamp or assembly, if separately serviceable.
  • Repair an open in the indicator B control wire.
  • Repair the control module output if testing confirms it has failed.

Can I keep driving?

The fault may leave you without a clear visual indication that charging is underway, but it does not by itself establish that the battery is not charging. Verify charging status through the vehicle's display or charging equipment and stop charging if other warnings or abnormal behavior occur.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
