What it means
The coupler lock control circuit is not operating within expected performance limits. The connector may not lock or release correctly, and charging may be interrupted.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The coupler lock actuator moves a mechanism that secures the charging connector, while the charger monitors how the lock control circuit and actuator respond to commands. P0D94 sets when that response is outside expected performance limits, such as when the actuator moves too slowly or a high-resistance connection impairs its operation.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Actuator response slow
- High-resistance contact
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame and charging data to identify whether the slow or incorrect response occurs during lock engagement, release, or both.
- Inspect the coupler inlet and lock mechanism for debris, damage, or binding that could slow actuator movement.
- Check the lock actuator connector and wiring for loose, corroded, or high-resistance contacts.
- Command the lock through a scan tool, if supported, and observe whether movement is delayed or incomplete.
- Measure voltage drop and check actuator response under command using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Remove debris or correct a visible obstruction in the coupler lock mechanism.
- Secure or repair a loose, corroded, or high-resistance connection.
- Repair damaged lock actuator wiring.
- Replace a slow or binding coupler lock actuator.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may fail to start or may be interrupted if the connector does not lock securely. Avoid forcing the connector or relying on a lock that does not engage or release consistently.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
