What it means
Phase W current of the a/c compressor motor reports a current low condition. Phase commutation may be impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The electric A/C compressor motor has multiple phase windings, including phase W, whose current helps the controller manage motor rotation. P0D7E sets when the monitored current in phase W is below the expected level, potentially impairing commutation.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Phase winding partially open
- Current sensor offset drifted
Symptoms
- Hybrid/EV system warning light on
- Air conditioning may be reduced or unavailable
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and compare commanded compressor operation with the phase W current and other phase-current readings.
- With the vehicle safely powered down according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect the compressor connector and phase W wiring for loose, corroded, overheated, or damaged connections.
- Check for related compressor and high-voltage codes that could affect the phase W reading.
- Have a qualified technician test phase W winding continuity against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the winding and wiring pass, test for current-sensor offset drift using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Reseat and secure the compressor connector if it is loose.
- Repair damaged phase W wiring or terminals.
- Replace the compressor if a partially open phase W winding is confirmed.
- Repair or replace the current-sensing component if testing identifies offset drift.
Can I keep driving?
The A/C may be weak or unavailable, and the vehicle may limit hybrid/EV operation. Avoid depending on cabin cooling in hot weather and have the compressor circuit checked promptly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
