OBD-II fault code

P0CE7: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Coolant Control Valve Position Sensor Circuit High

What it means

The ECM detects a high fault on the hybrid/ev battery pack coolant control valve position sensor circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The hybrid or EV battery coolant control valve directs coolant through the battery pack cooling loop, while its position sensor tells the ECM where the valve is. P0CE7 sets when the sensor circuit reads higher than expected, preventing the module from reliably confirming valve position.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to B+
  2. Open sensor
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and monitor the battery coolant valve position reading with a scan tool to check whether the high signal is constant or occurs under certain conditions.
  2. With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's high-voltage safety procedure, inspect the valve sensor connector for corrosion, moisture, loose pins, or damage.
  3. Inspect the sensor signal wire for a short to battery positive, paying particular attention to chafed or repaired sections of the harness.
  4. Check sensor supply, ground, and signal circuits against the manufacturer's wiring diagram and specifications, including continuity where appropriate.
  5. If the harness checks out, test the valve position sensor and valve operation according to the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or poorly seated connector pins.
  • Repair wiring shorted to battery positive or other harness damage.
  • Replace a faulty valve position sensor.
  • Replace the battery coolant control valve if the sensor is integrated or the valve mechanism is faulty.

Can I keep driving?

Keep driving only as needed and avoid hard acceleration or long trips if the vehicle limits power or shows a battery cooling warning. Valve position may not be controlled reliably, which can lead to reduced operation or charging restrictions.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
