OBD-II fault code

P0CDD: Drive Motor A Position Sensor Circuit C High

What it means

The position sensor channel C of drive motor A reports a circuit high fault. The drive motor's position, current and temperature are watched continuously; a fault here downgrades the inverter to a safe operating point or triggers torque reduction.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Drive motor A’s position sensor channel C provides rotor-position information used by the inverter to control motor torque. P0CDD sets when the channel C signal is higher than the expected range, so the module may limit motor output or enter a protective mode.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to B+
  2. Open sensor
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and compare live channel C readings with the other motor position data to determine when the signal goes high.
  2. With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's safety procedure, inspect drive motor A’s channel C connector and harness for loose or damaged wiring, corrosion, and signs of a short to battery positive.
  3. Use the manufacturer's wiring diagram to check the channel C signal, supply, and ground connections for an unintended high-voltage feed or an open circuit.
  4. If the harness checks out, test the channel C sensor for an open or other failure using the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. Clear the code after repairs and confirm channel C reports plausible position data during the prescribed operating check.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean channel C connector pins and secure the connector.
  • Repair wiring shorted to battery positive or an open in the channel C circuit.
  • Replace the channel C position sensor if it tests open or out of specification.

Can I keep driving?

Keep speed and acceleration modest, and avoid trips where sudden loss of motor power would be hazardous. If power is reduced, limp mode activates, or the vehicle warns that it may shut down, stop safely and arrange diagnosis before continuing.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
