OBD-II fault code

P0CDC: Drive Motor A Position Sensor Circuit C Low

What it means

The position sensor channel C of drive motor A reports a circuit low fault. The drive motor's position, current and temperature are watched continuously; a fault here downgrades the inverter to a safe operating point or triggers torque reduction.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Drive motor A has a position sensor channel C that helps the control module determine the motor’s rotor position for inverter control. The module sets P0CDC when channel C’s signal falls below the expected electrical range, which can make motor position unreliable and prompt torque reduction.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground
  2. Internal sensor short
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check live motor position and sensor-channel readings to see whether channel C stays low or the fault occurred only under particular conditions.
  2. With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's safety procedure, inspect drive motor A’s channel C connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, loose pins, or contact with ground.
  3. Check the channel C signal and its ground and supply connections using the manufacturer's wiring diagram, looking for a signal shorted to ground.
  4. If wiring and connections are sound, test the channel C sensor against the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure to check for an internal short.
  5. After any repair, clear the code and verify that channel C readings remain plausible during the manufacturer's prescribed test.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose channel C connector pins.
  • Repair a channel C signal wire shorted to ground.
  • Replace the channel C position sensor if it fails the manufacturer's test.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid hard acceleration and long trips because reduced motor torque or limp mode may occur without warning. If the vehicle enters limp mode or shows a hybrid system warning, stop somewhere safe; continued operation could lead to loss of drive.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
