OBD-II fault code

P0CDA: Drive Motor A Position Sensor Circuit C

What it means

The position sensor channel C of drive motor A reports a circuit fault. The drive motor's position, current and temperature are watched continuously; a fault here downgrades the inverter to a safe operating point or triggers torque reduction.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Drive motor A's position sensor channel C provides position information that the inverter uses to control motor torque. This code sets when the channel C circuit has an electrical fault, so the inverter may reduce torque or enter a protective operating mode.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Position sensor failed
  2. Wiring fault

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and scan the hybrid or EV system for related motor, inverter, and position-sensor codes.
  2. With the vehicle powered down under the manufacturer's high-voltage safety procedure, inspect the drive motor A channel C connector and accessible wiring for damage or poor contact.
  3. Check whether live data or scan-tool status shows the channel C signal missing or faulty when the motor system is enabled, if supported.
  4. Test the channel C wiring and sensor circuit using the manufacturer's procedure, without disturbing high-voltage components outside the approved process.
  5. Compare sensor and circuit results with the manufacturer's specification before replacing the position sensor or repairing wiring.

Common fixes

  • Secure a loose or damaged channel C connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring in the drive motor A position sensor channel C circuit.
  • Replace the channel C position sensor if testing confirms it has failed.
  • Clear the code and confirm normal motor operation and torque response.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced motor torque or a protective shutdown can affect acceleration and the vehicle may not remain drivable. Avoid high-speed or high-load driving; stop safely if power drops sharply or a shutdown warning appears.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
