What it means
The control module monitors circuit A of drive motor A’s position sensor for a signal below its calibrated threshold. It sets this code when the signal is too low.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Drive Motor A's position sensor sends rotor-position feedback on circuit A to the hybrid or EV control module. This code sets when that channel's signal drops below the module's calibrated threshold, which can happen if the line is grounded or the sensor or connection is faulty.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and check for other Drive Motor A sensor or hybrid-system codes before clearing anything.
- With the vehicle powered down using the manufacturer's safety procedure, inspect circuit A wiring and the sensor connector for chafing, pinched insulation, corrosion, or a loose terminal that could pull the signal low.
- Check circuit A's signal, power, and ground at the sensor using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification.
- Test the signal wire for a short to ground and check connector terminals for high resistance or poor contact.
- If the wiring and terminals pass, test Drive Motor A's sensor for an internal short using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair a signal wire in Drive Motor A's circuit A that is shorted to ground.
- Clean or replace corroded terminals and restore proper connector contact.
- Repair damaged insulation or a chafed harness section.
- Replace Drive Motor A's position sensor if testing confirms an internal short.
Can I keep driving?
Do not continue driving if motor power is reduced, limp mode begins, or shutdown seems possible; pull over safely and arrange recovery. The low position signal can disrupt motor control and leave the vehicle unable to maintain normal drive.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
