What it means
The ECM detects a circuit range/performance fault on the drive motor inverter temperature sensor f circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Inverter temperature sensor F measures temperature at its monitored point in the drive motor inverter. P0BE1 sets when the F circuit reading does not track expected temperature behavior or is outside its calibrated performance range, even if the signal is not simply stuck high or low.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor characteristic drifted
- Sensor mounting displaced
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame and live data for sensor F together with inverter operating conditions and other available temperature readings.
- Inspect sensor F's mounting position, connector seating, and harness for displacement, strain, contamination, or damage.
- Observe whether the F reading changes smoothly as the inverter warms and cools, and compare its response with nearby temperature readings.
- Test sensor F and its circuit response against the manufacturer's specification to distinguish a drifting sensor from a wiring problem.
- If the sensor and circuit pass, investigate a control-module or calibration issue using manufacturer-specific diagnostic information.
Common fixes
- Correct sensor F mounting or connector seating if displaced.
- Clean and secure the F connector; repair damaged wiring or terminals found during inspection.
- Replace sensor F if its response falls outside the manufacturer's specification.
- Investigate module or calibration faults only after the F sensor and circuit pass testing.
Can I keep driving?
The ECM may limit motor torque or activate limp mode because it cannot trust sensor F's temperature trend. Avoid sustained heavy loads and stop safely if a warning escalates or the vehicle loses power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
