What it means
The ECM detects a circuit fault on the drive motor inverter temperature sensor c circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Drive motor inverter temperature sensor C monitors temperature at a specific point in the drive motor inverter, and the ECM uses its signal to manage motor output and protect the power electronics. This circuit code sets when the sensor C signal or its wiring does not behave as the system expects; it does not by itself identify a low, high, or performance fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor failed
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and compare sensor C's live temperature with the other drive motor inverter temperature readings for an implausible value or dropout.
- With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, locate the drive motor inverter sensor C connector using vehicle service information and inspect it for looseness, corrosion, or damage.
- Follow the sensor C harness for chafing, pinching, broken insulation, or poor routing near the inverter.
- Check sensor C circuit continuity, connections, and ground reference using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and procedure.
- Test the sensor C element and circuit response against the manufacturer's specification, then recheck motor inverter temperatures after repair.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or repair damaged terminals at the drive motor inverter sensor C connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or a poor ground in the sensor C circuit.
- Replace the drive motor inverter temperature sensor C if it fails the manufacturer's test.
- Clear the code and confirm sensor C reports a plausible temperature.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration, high speeds, and heavy loads because drive motor output may be reduced or the vehicle may enter a protective mode. If the vehicle loses substantial power or warns that shutdown is possible, stop safely and arrange assistance.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
