What it means
The signal from hybrid battery temperature sensor E is intermittent or erratic. The code does not by itself identify the failed component.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Hybrid battery temperature sensor E reports the temperature at its assigned point in the high-voltage battery pack. P0BC6 sets when its signal becomes intermittent or erratic, often because the connector is not seated, its ground reference is noisy, or contact changes with vibration.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor connector not seated
- Noisy ground reference
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and review sensor E live data for sudden jumps or dropouts, noting whether the code appears during acceleration, charging, or vibration.
- With the vehicle powered down according to service information, inspect sensor E's connector for incomplete seating, corrosion, damaged terminals, or signs it can move.
- Inspect the accessible sensor E harness and ground reference for loose connections, chafing, or damage that could make the reading unstable.
- Monitor sensor E data while gently checking the accessible low-voltage harness and connector for changes, without disturbing high-voltage components.
- If the connector and wiring appear sound, test sensor E and its ground/reference circuit using the manufacturer's procedure to isolate a sensor fault from an intermittent wiring fault.
Common fixes
- Fully seat and secure sensor E's connector.
- Clean or repair loose or corroded connector terminals.
- Repair damaged wiring or a poor ground/reference connection in sensor E's circuit.
- Replace sensor E if its output remains erratic when the circuit tests correctly.
Can I keep driving?
Keep trips short and avoid heavy acceleration or charging if the warning returns or power is limited. An unstable temperature signal can cause protective hybrid operation and may disrupt charging or electric range.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
