OBD-II fault code

P0B22: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Voltage Sense D Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

What it means

The control module detects an intermittent or erratic signal in the hybrid/EV battery pack voltage sense D circuit.

How it works

The battery management module monitors pack-voltage sense channel D for a consistent reading. P0B22 sets when the D-channel signal becomes intermittent or erratic, which can happen with a loose connection, damaged wire, corrosion, or a faulty voltage sensor.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Loose battery voltage sensing connection
  2. Damaged sensing wire
  3. Corroded connector
  4. Faulty battery voltage sensor

Symptoms

  • Hybrid system warning light
  • Reduced power
  • Battery charge display may fluctuate

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and channel D live data for fluctuations or dropouts, and compare them with the other pack-sense readings.
  2. Check whether the charge display fluctuates or the warning appears intermittently, and scan for related sensing codes.
  3. Inspect the channel D connector for corrosion, looseness, or damaged terminals and check accessible wiring for chafing or breaks.
  4. Use the manufacturer's circuit information to test channel D connections and monitor for signal interruptions under the specified test conditions.
  5. If wiring and connections are sound, have the channel D sensor and battery monitoring system checked using high-voltage safety procedures.

Common fixes

  • Secure the loose channel D sensing connection.
  • Clean or replace corroded channel D connector terminals.
  • Repair or replace damaged channel D sensing wire.
  • Replace a confirmed faulty channel D voltage sensor.

Can I keep driving?

A fluctuating charge display or intermittent power reduction can make remaining range and performance less predictable, so avoid long trips until it is checked. Stop safely if power drops significantly or a high-voltage warning appears.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
