OBD-II fault code

P0ADB: Hybrid/EV Battery Positive Contactor Control Circuit Low

What it means

The control circuit of the HV battery positive contactor reports a control circuit low condition. HV main switching cannot be commanded reliably.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The positive contactor control circuit operates the switch that connects the battery pack's positive side to the vehicle's high-voltage system. P0ADB sets when the module detects a lower-than-expected signal in that circuit, which may result from a wire shorted to ground, a shorted coil, or a poor connection.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Control wire shorted to ground
  2. Internal short in coil
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and related contactor codes to determine when the low-circuit condition appeared.
  2. Follow the vehicle's high-voltage safety procedures before inspecting the positive contactor control harness or connector.
  3. Inspect accessible wiring for chafing to ground and the connector for corrosion or damaged terminals.
  4. With the circuit safely isolated as directed, test the control wire for a short to ground and the contactor coil for an internal short.
  5. Compare circuit readings with the manufacturer's specification to distinguish a grounded wire, failed coil, or resistive connection.

Common fixes

  • Repair a positive contactor control wire shorted to ground.
  • Clean or repair corroded connector terminals.
  • Replace the positive contactor if its coil is internally shorted.
  • Repair damaged wiring or terminals causing excessive resistance.

Can I keep driving?

If the vehicle will not enter READY mode, loses propulsion, or shows a high-voltage warning, stop safely and arrange qualified hybrid service; the battery may not connect reliably. Do not touch or test high-voltage components yourself.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
