OBD-II fault code

P0A41: Drive Motor A Position Sensor Circuit Low

What it means

The drive motor A rotor position signal is implausible relative to motor speed and torque commands, indicating drift or alignment fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Drive Motor A's position sensor supplies rotor-position feedback for inverter commutation. This low-circuit code indicates that the monitored signal is below its expected electrical range; it does not by itself establish that the sensor is misaligned or worn. A low signal can also result from a short, poor connection, or fault in the sensor supply or return circuit.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Resolver alignment off
  2. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
  3. Sensor mounting loose - signal damping

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and live readings for Drive Motor A position signal and related sensor-circuit codes to confirm when the low reading occurs.
  2. Following the manufacturer's high-voltage safety procedure, inspect the Drive Motor A sensor connector and harness for a loose fit, corrosion, pin damage, or chafing.
  3. Use the wiring diagram to check the sensor supply, signal, and return circuits for shorts or poor connections, comparing results with the manufacturer's specifications.
  4. Monitor the position signal during the manufacturer's approved test to see whether it remains low or changes with motor rotation.
  5. If the wiring and connections pass, test sensor mounting and alignment, then test the position sensor itself according to the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure a loose or corroded Drive Motor A position-sensor connection.
  • Repair a shorted or damaged sensor wire or poor return connection.
  • Correct sensor mounting or alignment if testing confirms it is incorrect.
  • Replace the Drive Motor A position sensor only if it fails the manufacturer's tests.

Can I keep driving?

Have the fault diagnosed promptly and avoid hard acceleration or high-speed trips, since low position feedback can reduce motor power or lead to limp mode. Stop safely if torque becomes unpredictable or a stop warning appears.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
