What it means
The drive motor B temperature sensor circuit signal is below the expected range. The code identifies a low circuit signal; the specific cause depends on the vehicle.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Drive motor B has a temperature sensor that reports its heat to the hybrid control system. The module monitors the sensor signal and sets P0A32 when that signal falls below its expected range, which can make motor temperature unreliable to the controller.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced motor power or torque
- Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and compare drive motor B temperature with other available temperature readings for an implausibly low value.
- With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's safety procedure, inspect drive motor B's sensor connector and harness for damage, moisture, corrosion, or a wire pinched against ground.
- Check the sensor signal and ground circuits for a short to ground, using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's test procedure.
- Test the drive motor B temperature sensor and connector terminals against the manufacturer's specification to distinguish an internally shorted sensor from contact resistance.
- Repair the confirmed fault, clear the code, and verify that the live temperature reading responds plausibly during a controlled check.
Common fixes
- Repair damaged drive motor B sensor wiring that is shorted to ground.
- Clean or repair corroded or loose terminals at the drive motor B temperature sensor connector.
- Replace the drive motor B temperature sensor if it fails the specified test.
- Repair the affected circuit connection and verify the temperature signal after clearing the code.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration, steep climbs, and long trips because the hybrid system may limit torque or enter limp mode when it cannot trust drive motor B's temperature. If power drops sharply or a shutdown warning appears, stop safely and arrange service; continued operation can leave you without propulsion.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
