OBD-II fault code

P0A2D: Drive Motor A Temperature Sensor Circuit High

What it means

Voltage at motor A temperature sensor above threshold, suggesting open circuit. The drive motor's position, current and temperature are watched continuously; a fault here downgrades the inverter to a safe operating point or triggers torque reduction.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The Drive Motor A temperature sensor circuit carries the signal used to monitor motor winding temperature. P0A2D sets when signal voltage is above the permitted range, often because the circuit is open or the signal wire is contacting a power source.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open sensor circuit
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check Drive Motor A temperature live data for a high, fixed, or missing reading.
  2. Power down according to the manufacturer's procedure and inspect the sensor connector and harness for an unplugged connection, broken wire, or pinched insulation.
  3. Check connector pins for corrosion, damage, or poor contact that could leave the circuit open.
  4. Test the circuit for an open and for contact with a B+ source using the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If wiring checks pass, test the sensor and control-module input against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect a loose Drive Motor A sensor connector.
  • Repair an open or damaged sensor wire.
  • Repair wiring pinched against a B+ source.
  • Replace the sensor if it fails testing with a sound circuit.

Can I keep driving?

Drive gently and avoid heavy acceleration because the system may reduce motor torque without a reliable Drive Motor A temperature signal. Stop if the vehicle enters limp mode or displays a shutdown warning.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
