What it means
The active engine mount A control circuit reports a control circuit/open condition. Vibration damping cannot be modulated.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Engine mount A is an electronically controlled mount that changes how much vibration it absorbs as the engine runs. The control module monitors the mount A actuator circuit and sets this code when it detects an open path, so it cannot command the mount to adjust damping.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open in mount control wire
- Open mount actuator
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- Check-engine warning light on
- More engine vibration at idle or when starting and stopping
- Increased vibration felt in the cabin
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check mount-control data with a scan tool to see when the fault occurred and whether mount A responds to commands.
- With the vehicle off, inspect mount A's connector for a pushed-back pin, poor seating, corrosion, or damaged wiring.
- Follow the mount A control wire and look for breaks, chafing, or damage where it passes near brackets or moving parts.
- Check continuity through the control wire and connector with the circuit isolated, following the vehicle wiring diagram.
- Test the mount A actuator and its circuit against the manufacturer's specification before replacing the mount or control module.
Common fixes
- Reseat the mount A connector and repair a pushed-back pin or damaged terminal.
- Repair an open or broken section of mount A control wiring.
- Replace the mount A actuator if it fails its circuit test.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle may remain driveable, but expect more vibration at idle and during starting or stopping. Avoid prolonged driving if vibration is severe or the mount appears damaged, since excess movement can strain nearby components.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
