What it means
The DC/DC converter enable circuit reports a enable circuit high condition. Converter cannot be commanded to start reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The DC/DC converter enable circuit carries or represents the command that starts the converter's 12-volt charging operation. P0A13 sets when the enable signal is higher than expected, which can happen if the signal wire is shorted to battery voltage or its pull-down path is open.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Wire shorted to B+
- Pull-down resistor open
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Hybrid system or check-engine warning light on
- 12-volt battery may lose charge
- Vehicle may not enter READY mode
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and scan related converter and 12-volt system codes to determine whether the high enable signal is current.
- Check the 12-volt battery condition and charging warnings to assess whether the converter is responding to commands.
- Inspect the enable wire and connectors for pinching against a power feed, corrosion, loose fit, or damaged terminals.
- Compare converter enable command and status data on a scan tool, if supported, to distinguish an incorrect signal from a converter response problem.
- Have the enable circuit tested for a short to voltage and an open pull-down path according to the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair an enable wire shorted to a power source.
- Repair a damaged or corroded enable circuit connector.
- Replace a failed pull-down component or circuit part if confirmed by testing.
- Replace the converter or repair its control circuit only when specified checks identify it as the cause.
Can I keep driving?
If the converter is not maintaining the 12-volt battery, limit driving because electrical systems may fail and the vehicle may not remain drivable. Arrange prompt diagnosis if the battery warning is on or READY mode is unreliable.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
