What it means
The DC/DC converter enable circuit reports a enable circuit/open condition. Converter cannot be commanded to start reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The DC/DC converter enable circuit carries the command that allows the converter to begin supplying the 12-volt system from the hybrid battery. P0A11 indicates an open or missing enable path, so the converter may not start when commanded.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open in enable wire
- Enable switch failed
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- Hybrid system or check-engine warning light on
- 12-volt battery may lose charge
- Vehicle may not enter READY mode
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and scan related hybrid and charging codes to establish whether the enable fault appears with a 12-volt charging problem.
- Check the 12-volt battery condition and connections, since a discharged battery may be both a symptom and a clue that the converter is not enabled.
- Inspect the enable circuit wiring and connectors for a loose plug, broken wire, corrosion, or a terminal pushed back into the connector body.
- Use scan-tool data to compare the converter enable command with its reported status, if available.
- Have the enable circuit checked for continuity and the enable switch or control path tested using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Reseat a loose enable circuit connector.
- Repair an open or broken enable wire.
- Replace a damaged connector or pushed-back terminal.
- Replace a failed enable switch or related component after testing confirms the fault.
Can I keep driving?
If the 12-volt battery is not being charged or the vehicle will not enter READY, avoid driving because electrical systems or propulsion may be lost. A depleted 12-volt battery can leave the vehicle unable to start.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
