OBD-II fault code

P0935: Hydraulic Pressure Sensor Circuit High

What it means

The transmission control module detects a hydraulic pressure sensor signal that is higher than expected. It sets the code when the signal stays above the calibrated limit under the conditions used to monitor the circuit.

How it works

The transmission control module (TCM) uses the hydraulic pressure sensor’s signal to track pressure in the transmission’s hydraulic system. P0935 sets when that signal remains above the expected limit, which can reflect an electrical fault or pressure that is genuinely too high.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Faulty hydraulic pressure sensor
  2. Damaged or shorted sensor wiring
  3. Corroded or loose electrical connector
  4. Transmission hydraulic pressure problem

Symptoms

  • Transmission warning light
  • Harsh or delayed shifting
  • Transmission may enter limp mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check live hydraulic pressure readings to see when the signal went high and whether it changes plausibly with operating conditions.
  2. Inspect the hydraulic pressure sensor connector and wiring for loose or corroded pins, damaged insulation, or a short to power.
  3. Check the sensor signal circuit and its reference and ground circuits against the manufacturer's wiring information for an unintended high signal or poor connection.
  4. If the wiring checks out, compare the sensor reading with an appropriate independent pressure check to distinguish a failed sensor from actual hydraulic pressure trouble.
  5. Replace a confirmed faulty sensor or trace and repair the hydraulic pressure problem before clearing the code and checking whether it returns.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure a loose or corroded pressure sensor connector.
  • Repair wiring shorted to power or otherwise damaged in the sensor circuit.
  • Replace the hydraulic pressure sensor if its signal is out of range despite sound wiring.
  • Repair the hydraulic system if an independent check confirms abnormal pressure.

Can I keep driving?

If shifting is harsh or delayed, limit driving and avoid towing or hard acceleration; a pressure-control fault can worsen shifting and damage the transmission. Stop safely if the transmission enters limp mode or begins slipping.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
