What it means
The transmission control module monitors the electrical signal from transmission fluid pressure sensor/switch G. It sets this code when the signal is irregular or cuts in and out instead of remaining consistent.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Transmission pressure sensor/switch G reports pressure-related information from a monitored transmission circuit, though this code does not identify that hydraulic circuit. The transmission control module sets this code when the G signal cuts in and out or becomes erratic rather than remaining consistent, often because of a loose connection or vibration-sensitive wiring fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Connector not seated
- Harness chafing intermittently
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check transmission live data for sensor/switch G dropouts around the time the code set.
- Inspect the G sensor connector for a fully seated lock, loose terminals, corrosion, and fluid intrusion.
- While monitoring the signal, gently move the G circuit harness and connector to reproduce any intermittent change without pulling on the wires.
- Check the G circuit wiring and terminal tension for breaks, chafing, or poor contact, following the manufacturer's circuit test procedure.
- If the wiring remains stable, test pressure sensor/switch G under the conditions specified by the manufacturer and check for related module codes.
Common fixes
- Reseat and secure a loose G sensor connector.
- Repair an intermittently chafed or internally broken wire in the G circuit.
- Repair loose, corroded, or damaged connector terminals.
- Replace pressure sensor/switch G if its signal drops out with a sound circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Keep trips short and gentle only if the transmission shifts normally; stop if it slips, shifts unpredictably, or enters a limited mode. The intermittent signal can return without warning and disrupt transmission control.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
