OBD-II fault code

P0807: Clutch Position Sensor A Circuit Low

What it means

The clutch position sensor circuit signal is below the expected level. The code does not identify the specific electrical cause.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Clutch position sensor A sends a signal used by the transmission control module to track clutch position. P0807 sets when that signal falls below the expected level, which can result from a grounded signal wire, poor connection, or another circuit fault.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Harness chafing through insulation

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan the transmission module and save freeze-frame data, including sensor A’s reported position and any related circuit codes.
  2. Check whether sensor A’s reading is consistently low or changes when the clutch moves, if live data is available.
  3. Inspect sensor A’s connector and harness for corrosion, chafing, or insulation worn through to ground.
  4. Test the signal wire for a short to ground and check connector pin fit, supply, and ground against the wiring diagram.
  5. If the wiring checks out, test sensor A and its input circuit against the manufacturer’s specification.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure a corroded or loose sensor A connector.
  • Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or chafed through its insulation.
  • Repair a poor terminal connection or damaged harness section.
  • Replace clutch position sensor A if it fails testing.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid driving if clutch engagement or shifting is erratic, because a low sensor signal can prevent the transmission from controlling the clutch reliably. If the car still shifts normally, limit driving and have the circuit checked promptly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
