OBD-II fault code

P07F1: Input/Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor C Circuit

What it means

A fault was detected in the input/turbine shaft speed sensor C circuit. The code does not establish that this is a third sensor or that it is used only in heavy-duty or hybrid transmissions.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Input/turbine shaft speed sensor C reports rotational speed from a part of the transmission input or turbine assembly. The control module uses that signal to assess transmission operation, and P07F1 sets when it detects a fault in sensor C's circuit; the code alone does not establish that it is a third sensor.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open or shorted sensor wiring
  2. Loose or corroded connector
  3. Input/turbine speed sensor C failure
  4. Damaged tone wheel or reluctor
  5. Control module circuit fault

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check live input/turbine speed readings to see whether sensor C is missing, erratic, or inconsistent when the fault occurs.
  2. Inspect sensor C's connector and wiring for loose connections, corrosion, chafing, or damage.
  3. Check whether other transmission speed sensor or communication codes are present, since they can help distinguish a sensor C fault from a shared circuit problem.
  4. Test sensor C's power, ground, and signal circuit as applicable to the vehicle, and compare results with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the circuit checks out, inspect the sensor and the associated tone wheel or reluctor for damage or contamination where accessible.
  6. If the sensor signal reaches the control module correctly but the code persists, follow the vehicle's diagnostic procedure for a module circuit fault.

Common fixes

  • Repair damaged or chafed sensor C wiring.
  • Clean or repair a loose or corroded sensor C connector.
  • Replace input/turbine shaft speed sensor C if it fails circuit or signal testing.
  • Repair a damaged tone wheel or reluctor if inspection confirms the fault.
  • Repair a confirmed control module circuit fault after verifying the sensor signal and wiring.

Can I keep driving?

If shifting is harsh, delayed, or slipping, limit driving and avoid towing or hard acceleration until sensor C's signal is checked. Incorrect speed information can disrupt shift control and continued slipping can damage transmission components.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
